Our Preferred Photographer:
We are fortunate to have a photographer, Mr. Bill, who works with us to photograph weddings, if you desire his services. His prices cannot be beaten and his quality is high. Add to this the fact that if you pay an extra $100 for your package, he donates the entire amount of your wedding package to a small village in India near where he grew up. We call him St. Bill actually!
Here is a description of what he does and he only works at Hidden River:
I will photograph your wedding using a high resolution digital camera with excellent lenses. Because I am using a digital camera, I can take a great number of photographs. While I pay great attention to lighting and background and do my best to make every photograph a good one, when photographing people, chance plays a great part. It is impossible to anticipate the marvelous smile and even harder to get six people all to have a great expression at the same time. It is hard enough to photograph six people with all of their eyes open at the same time. So I will take a great number of photographs and then sort out the really good ones. I select and process about one photograph out of ten.
Digital technology allows photographs to be viewed and shared in a different way from film photography. I can produce 11”x14” or 8”x10” printed photographs in colored or black and white, framed or unframed, in the way photographs are shared through film photography. But these are your photographs, so I will give you all of the photographs, including the poorer ones, along with all of the excellent photographs that I have processed for you. I will give you these on a DVD that you can backup and make multiple copies of and process yourself in any way you want. While your DVD is in the mail, I will place the selected photographs on Flickr.com, as soon as I have processed them, so you can see them right away along with their digital slide shows. At this point, you can also have these photographs printed very reasonably as 4”x6” prints at Target, if you wish, and start showing them off to people.
I am charging you for taking the photographs and selecting and processing the best of them and then sharing these selected and processed photographs in ways that are possible through digital photography but are very difficult and expensive to do through film photography.
DVD Slide Shows: I will send you a professional looking DVD that you can play on a DVD player on either a normal television or a flat screen, high definition television. These pan and zoom slide shows, accompanied by the same music played at your wedding (taken from iTunes), are a great way to show off your wedding photographs and to relive the moment. You can order additional copies of the DVD with an attractive printed cover photograph from me at $10/each.
Well printed and bound book of photographs: Because of new digital technology, it is possible for you to have your wedding photographs presented in an inexpensive 80 page, well bound and well printed book available at Blurb.com. I will include from 80 to 120 of the best photographs. Since these books are printed one at a time, I will send you a copy to look at. At this point, I hope you will be pleased with the book and keep it, included in the price that we’ve agree upon. But if there are mistakes or I’ve left someone out, you need only to put post-it notes on the pages you want changed and I will revise the book and send you the revised copy. If at that point you want more revisions there will be a $40 charge for the newly revised book. You can order as many copies of the book as you want in hardback or paperback from Blurb.com
So, in the digital age when photographs are virtual and easily sharable and easy to process, you will get all the photographs to process as you please. You could also, of course, make your own Blurb book or a different version of the Blurb book and make your own attractively printed DVD. But why you are paying me about $20 an hour is to take attractive photographs with a good camera and then to do the methodical work of sorting and processing the photographs on good equipment and quickly turning them into a DVD and a book, a project which would take you longer than it takes me and it might not look quite as good, given that I have had more experience. Ask around to see how many of your friends have turned their wedding photographs into sharable projects.
My charges are based on the number of photographs a wedding will generate and the time it will take to sort and process and share these photographs. You are paying for my equipment, my skill and my time. I consider all the photographs to be yours to process and do with as you want. If you need further help and prefer that I help you to do it yourself I will be glad to print the copies of your photographs that you select in the ways you want. If kept under glass, these digital prints should fade more slowly than photographs printed form film. All of the income from weddings goes toward my equipment upkeep and upgrade, other overhead costs, and, as is the case with Hidden River, a portion of this cost, about 1% goes to a charity. I tend to give to a small and struggling village school in India where I grew up as a child.
These are my current rates: Until contract signing, prices are subject to change.
Very Small Wedding: $300 for a small wedding of two to five people with you receiving all of the digital photographs, a DVD and a printed book. These weddings highlight the bride and groom, the minister and witnesses, along with the setting at Hidden River.
Small Wedding: $400 for a wedding with up to 50 guests you receive all the photographs in digital form, one DVD and one printed book. These weddings are often somewhat informal and allow me to photograph all the guests in various combinations as they arrive and with more photographs after the wedding for posed shots. I will also photograph the beginning of the receptions including the cake cutting and other reception moments for an additional fee of $125/hour.
Medium Sized Wedding: $500 for a larger wedding for 50-100 people with you receiving all the photographs in digital form, one DVD and one printed book. While I try and photograph as many of the guests as possible, the festive nature of the wedding may mean that I leave some people out. I will try, however, to get the overall feel of the wedding. For $125/hour I will remain to photograph the reception, including key moments such as the cake cutting.
Large Wedding: $650 for 100 to 150 people. In this case, I require the couple to provide someone who is intimately connected with the wedding to help me to organize the photography of the wedding party and relatives to make sure we get every desired combination. Photographs of the guests will be a random selection of photographs that give the feel of the wedding. As in the other packages, I will remain on site after the post-ceremony portraits for an additional $125/hour to photograph key moments in the reception.
Extra-Large Wedding: $750 for 150-250 people.
Rehearsal Dinner, Bridesmaid Luncheon or other event at Hidden River: $125/hour for less than 100 guests. $225/hour for more than 100-150 guests and this will include the same services as above: DVD, slide show, bound book.
Special Offer: If a client pays $100 extra for Bill Mosher’s services, Bill will donate 100% of the amount client spends for photography to a village in India.
When the number of guests goes over one of these limits, a 25% surcharge will be added to the price and is payable on the day of the event.
Prior to contracting with me or afterwards, I will be happy to send you a DVD of Hidden River Weddings so you can get a feel for what your DVD will look like and judge for yourself my work. You can also see photographs of Hidden River weddings on line at Flickr. You can look at the wedding books I have produced thus far at Hidden River or by going to link on this website titled “Photo Gallery” and look at the Preferred Photographer section.
Thanks,
Bill
